Bundshop Relaunches as Curated Portal to China Design

Shanghai based Bundshop, e-tailer of curated Designed in China products and fashion, have recently re-launched with a slightly different, more exclusive format. As described in the Core77 article, Bundshop are now featuring a new design from China, daily. The shop is currently invitation only, and with the first 10,000 members, they plan on offering free worldwide shipping.

With products as intriguing and iconic as Carl Liu’s Shanghai Breeze fan, and the Kettle Lamp by Jonas’ Designs, Bundshop is positioning itself to be the taste curator of modern Chinese design.

A number of Chinese fashion and apparel brands are now aiming to build upon their domestic success and establish themselves in Western markets. Among them are companies like Bosideng, with recorded revenues of $1.3 billion in 2012 and over 10,000 retail outlets in China, and Eve Enterprise, the group behind four menswear collections now targeting the UK.

China’s Plans for Its Own Car Brands Stall

Chinese automakers are losing ground to their foreign competitors, despite three decades of partnerships with foreign automakers to exchange market access for technology. Domestic car buyers still perceive Chinese auto brands as inferior and less desirable to foreign brands. While domestic auto companies, such as BAIC and Brilliance China Automotive Holdings, have hired top foreign designers to give their products a design boost, the strategy has not yet yielded improvements in brand perceptions and market share. For now, the core business for Chinese automakers is to continue manufacturing their foreign partners’ products.

Sally is a Shanghainese born in 1986 and started picking up art, design and advertising after displaying a big interest in the art field since a child. After working at the advertising agency McCann-Erickson, she joined W+K Shanghai as an intern in 2006 to participate in numerous design projects and visual productions. Sally officially became Wieden+Kennedy Shanghai’s graphic designer and digital artist in 2007, and went on to work on visual works for Nike, Converse and Umbro. One of the projects she worked on, “W+K BOOK III”, won a merit at One Show 2009. Sally is also a member of the design collective- MMRB and has been working on several art collaborations, and increasing her presence in the design industry as well by emerging 3rd place in the Cut & Paste competition held in Shanghai. Recently, she was the only Chinese female individual to be selected by Yen magazine, Australia’s no.1 independent magazine for women as one of the top 100 female artists in 2009.

Shang Xia is a brand for art of living that promises a unique encounter with the heritage of Chinese design and craftsmanship. Together with the Hermes group, designer Jian Qiong Er established Shang Xia with a mission to create a lifestyle founded on the finest of Chinese design traditions. The collection of Shang Xia consists of furniture, porcelain, home wares, clothing and jewellery. Shan Xia’s first retail space uses memory shaped high-tech white fabric to create a dream like feeling, designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma.
