Timeless Eames

Timeless and Built to last are the ultimate goals Carl Liu has been pursuing for his designs.
Charles Eames (1907-1978) was one of the best and influential furniture designer in America. Eames’s products were functional, aesthetical and ergonomical. Even though most of the designs are over fifty years old, they are still being mass produced all over the world.
It is Carl Liu’s tribute to his design idol Charles Eames for reconstructing on his Shell Chair. Stainless steel is a tough material. He chose it to replace the original fiber glass in order to make this classic design even more ” Timeless”.

Interview with JinR

“I don’t think of myself as someone who has done all that much. I look at accomplished people and I’m in awe. I actually think of myself as rather laid-back. What does move me though to the next step is being comfortable with myself. I think of music, for example, as a ladder to the soul, as a way of understanding who we are. Art can lead us to true peace. It can make time stop. As an artist, I’m looking for the moment. It’s the moment which words cannot describe, but I know when I’ve reached it.”

Impression of Grand Central Hall

This straight-backed armchair has some resemblance to a fauteuil, a style of open-arm chair with a primarily exposed wooden frame that originated in France in the early 18th century. However it is several centuries older than a fauteuil and conveys much more. With its elevated height, it gives a solemn and magnificent impression to whoever sits in it. The traditional furnishing of the central hall of Chinese houses, whether in the quadrangle courtyards of Northern China or in Huizhou style architecture of the Yangtze River basin, presents an air of grandiose and magnificence. The question was whether or not furniture made of transparent materials could convey the same impact in a central hall. After many attempts, July finally made this set of ‘Impressions of a Grand Central Hall’, and fulfilled one of his dreams of replicating the ancient beauty of this setting.

Zhe Chair

The concept of the design derives from package which can be found everywhere
in daily life. By using a single piece of stainless steel sheet and the simple
industrial bending process, the “skin” of the chair was created. The designed
structure and the wooden legs give the support to the chair, at the same time
the combination of cold/warm materials and the bright color bring out an elegant
look of modern design.

Tai Chi Chair

At the office, most of the time we sit, absorbed by our work, not varying enough
movements, which causes back problems, blood circulation problems in the legs and
stress. After several hours of physical inactivity at the office, the chair Tai chi aims to
encourage the user to regain consciousness of his body, thanks to the accomplishment
of slow and precise gestures. It invites you to follow a rhythm constituted by a sequence
of slow movements that promote energy flow. Inspired by this idea, the chair Tai Chi is
designed to enable the worker to integrate a new rhythm at work, which alternates the
sitting position, with a period of light physical activity.
